About the Event

Presenter: Rev. Brian Kiely  //  Worship Associate: Marilyn Raymond

Did you know that Rev. Rob Brownlie, a Unitarian Universalist, conducted the first religious same-sex union (non-legal marriage) service in Canada back in the 1970s? Rob would later retire and become active at KU for years. In 1997, KU became the city's first “Welcoming Congregation”, a process that helped us learn how to be open and welcoming to 2SLGBTQI+ people. Our Unitarian history of belonging goes back a long way and still informs our church today, most recently with renovations to create all-gender washrooms.
